A Scientific Forum in Paris Explores the Heart of the Dossier. The Final Step Before the November Vote.

Guests: World-renowned dance star Roberto Bolle, young climate activist Licypriya Kangujam, technologist Eric Pulier.

Mattarella: Expo Is Not Just a Showcase, But a Place to Develop Human Relationships.

Today, at the Palais Brongniart in Paris, the “People and Territories” Scientific Forum was held, dedicated to the central theme of Rome’s candidacy for Expo 2030. This event represented the final mandatory step for all candidate cities (Rome, Riyadh, and Busan) before the final assembly and the subsequent vote scheduled for November 28.

The event began with a video message from the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. In attendance were Delegates from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the Secretary of the BIE, Dimitri Kerkentzes, the President of the Expo 2030 Rome Committee, Giampiero Massolo, the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, and Special Ambassadors of the Committee. A video message also conveyed greetings from the President of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca.

The forum featured several internationally renowned speakers: Licypriya Kangujam, a twelve-year-old Indian and one of the most influential climate activists globally; Eric Pulier, a well-known philanthropist and tech entrepreneur; Matteo Gatto, the Director of the Bid File Dossier. Additionally, Massimo Vallati and Denis Moris, representatives of the Calcio Sociale experience in Corviale, Rome, played significant roles in the evening.

The opening session of the forum was chaired by the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, while the event was moderated by journalist and television presenter Mia Ceran and Edoardo Zanchini from the Climate Office of the City of Rome.

The symposium was a high-impact technological immersive experience that stimulated in-depth discussions on the theme “People and Territories,” explored through five main guidelines:

  • Living and habitat;
  • Roads, pathways, networks, frontiers;
  • Territories and inclusion;
  • Environment, energy, resources;
  • Risk, hazard, vulnerability, and resilience.

To enrich the narrative on the masterplan theme, three extraordinary performances by étoile Roberto Bolle were presented, accompanied by the prima ballerina from La Scala in Milan, Nicoletta Manni, titled “Sphere“, “Waves“, and “Caravaggio“.

Sphere represents a declaration of love for our planet and an urgent call to care for it and become aware of its growing illness, for which we are responsible. In this performance, conceived by Roberto Bolle in collaboration with choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti and accompanied by original music by violinist Alessandro Quarta, Bolle lifts a large sphere, a symbol of our fragile planet, inviting us to embrace and protect it. Sphere conveys a message to new generations and everyone, as it is essential to unite forces to preserve the Earth.

Waves combines dance with technology to offer a futuristic perspective, with music by Davide Di Leo (Boosta) dialoguing with Bolle’s dance. Movements merge with laser drawings, taking us on a journey through the past, present, and future. Beauty and tradition meet contemporaneity in Massimiliano Volpini’s choreography.

In Mauro Bigonzetti’s performance “Caravaggio,” set to music by Claudio Monteverdi arranged by Bruno Moretti, light takes center stage, shaping the lines and bodies of Roberto Bolle and Nicoletta Manni. This choreography transforms the humble protagonists of Caravaggio’s works into eternal princes of grace and beauty.

Statements

Licypriya Kangujam

“If there is no nature, there will be no human beings, and that’s why we are here, invited by Expo Roma, because this is the theme: people and the territory; we are a part of it. We will not allow history to be written only for greed and profit. We must look at social profit, which means a better planet for all. We cannot trade the future for profit. It is our duty to protect Mother Nature from those who refuse to see its beauty. I dream of a future where there are no coal and thermal power plants and they are replaced by clean renewable energy. I dream of a future where all the children in the world have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and a clean planet to live on. If our common territories are destroyed, so are the populations. We must work together to solve this situation. This is the legacy we kindly and passionately ask you to consider.”

Eric Pulier

“It is crucial to remember that technology should be used for the benefit of humanity, not to its detriment. While technology and money can be enticing, it is equally important not to lose oneself and one’s soul in the process. What we are experiencing now is a significant moment for humanity. One of the wonderful aspects of Expo 2030 in Rome is that it is a project with a soul, with a campaign dedicated to humanity and rights, and it will also be a permanent installation that will contribute to shaping the future in a positive way.”

Massimo Vallati and Denis Moris – Calciosociale di Corviale

“Promoting respect for diversity, the integral growth of every individual, and a particular focus on vulnerable people must be the basis for every decision. Calciosociale’s challenge is to bring its methodology to soccer schools and create a systemic change: soccer schools become a life gym. Here, a universal sport becomes a universal platform for social development, to stimulate collective awareness in favor of social emergencies in Italy. Thus, the Expo 2030 Rome project promotes these values and has involved the entire third sector from the beginning to create an Expo for all and accessible to all.”

Roberto Bolle

“I chose to support Rome’s candidacy for the next Expo out of love for my country and because I share the values and themes at the heart of Italy’s proposal. When I was asked to participate, I enthusiastically agreed, bringing my art, dance, which naturally embodies those values. Dance is universal, resilient, democratic, even though it is often unjustly treated as a secondary art. Meritocratic and inclusive, educational, and a promoter of great values, dance is particularly suitable for addressing the world of our country because it is a heritage for everyone and a source of pride for all Italians.”

Francesco Rocca, President of the Lazio Region

“Expo 2030 is designed for people, incorporating the seeds of cultural change and shared growth within it, through thousands of scholarships and innovative initiatives. The future is illuminated by the Knowledge Park, an innovation hub designed to promote new collaborations between Italy and all participating countries. In conclusion, as we collectively move towards a future where our integrated ambitions drive progress, inclusion, and innovative development, Expo 2030 emerges not only as a single event but as a lasting symbol of global cooperation, shared prosperity, and a common destiny on the international stage. It is with this spirit of unity that we can celebrate here in the Eternal City and in my wonderful region.”

PRESIDENT SERGIO MATTARELLA’S GREETING

“Places and people, nations and territories, the Earth and humanity. These are the protagonists of Rome and Italy’s Expo 2030 proposal.

Rome, a city that has made inclusion one of the hallmarks of its history over the centuries.

A place that has been a promoter of civilization, hospitality, and dialogue with the numerous cultures that have enriched its identity over millennia. A people, a city, a territory that have been capable of providing hospitality, producing innovation, and continuously regenerating the urban fabric of what historians call the eternal city. An adventure of women, men, rulers, and common people, of faiths and peoples, inscribed in what constitutes a precious memory for humanity.

Rome offers its history, the events that have accompanied it as a platform for meeting and exchange at the beginning of the third millennium, to reflect on the challenges that humanity faces and on the responses that can improve the lives of billions of people who inhabit the planet.

Expo, with the presence of many countries and numerous visitors, has, first and foremost, a message: to get to know each other, to nurture ambition and awareness of the duty to progress together, to explore the  common  values of  individuals and nations, to develop rules of coexistence that respect the dignity of everyone, under every latitude.

Furthermore, to investigate how education, research, and the advancement of contemporary technologies can contribute to this goal. Not just glittering high-tech showcases or conventional exhibitions representing remarkable places on the planet, but rather places and people coming together to establish networks of relationships and sharing, with special attention to the young and to those in society living under conditions of disability or marginalization.

Expo is a formidable vehicle of education, knowledge, and mutual understanding.

For this reason, we imagine that in Rome, the protagonists of Expo 2030 should be all the peoples of the world, each with the contribution of their traditions and history. Cities have been protagonists in the development of contemporary civilization, a means of innovation, inclusion, growth, and promotion. This is what Rome Expo 2030 and Italy aim to propose.”
