The Expo 2030 Roma site will not only host a visually stunning exhibition with amazing content, but it will also serve as a legacy hub for innovation rooted in shared values and community action.
Innovation will be highlighted in the physical staging of the event, the modern infrastructure, the transport links, the use of multimedia, ‘pop up’ events, a multi-channel communications programme and architectural models for new ways of living.
Expo 2030 Roma is aiming to provide a new model for Universal Expositions in the 21st century by applying Together/Insieme an innovative and cross-sector approach to the People and Territories Theme: in our masterplan the Theme is everything and Everything is the Theme. Rather than leave behind monumental architecture, Rome’s Expo will focus on ‘living legacies’ of landscapes, social-cultural initiatives, scientific and environmental innovations that can be used for good of future generations.
To this end, the design of Expo, both physically and organizationally, is inspired by the concept of the Urban Living Lab, creating both geographical and virtual spaces where stakeholders can practice Expo 2030’s core values such as Togetherness/Solidarity,
multi-culturalism, internationality, the promotion of a healthy and sustainable lifestyles and the importance of education as a driver of innovation.
Innovation as a hub to encourage new thinking and incentives to exploit leading-edge technologies.
Expo 2030 Roma has set itself the ambitious target of sustainability, which involves neutralising the on-site carbon impact of the event, without recourse to off-site compensation. This goal will set a marker in the history of humanity on the cusp of 2030, the year that rounds off the sustainability challenges of the Sustainable Development Agenda signed unanimously by the 193 United Nation member countries in 2015. This major objective of Expo 2030 Roma sets the tone for future events; in this instance, designing a sustainable event is not just an essential ethical approach to ensure a limited impact on the environment and help to achieve tangible objectives in the fight against climate change, but it also aims to position major events within a new scenario. A spectacular event that is also sustainable can be created, and Expo 2030 Roma has the ambition of proving it to the entire world.
